We did this sunrise engagement session a little while ago and it was just such a beautiful morning that i wanted to post it. Sunrise is my favorite time of the day to photograph on a good day. There are so many changes of light in just an hour time.

We did a sunrise portrait session in Kailua. It is my most favorite time of the day to take photos, so i kind of push for it when i can. Although most couples need a moment to "arrive"... none of them ever regretted to get up that early and driven to the other side of the island after the session. Thanks Jayme & Ross for being so much fun ( that early in the day! )

A Proposal Captured Live On Camera!!
Jesse called me with a special request. While vacationing in Hawaii he wanted to propose to his girlfriend Nicole. He also wanted her expression captured on camera, which challenged me. I am rather shy in approaching people that are not expecting to be photographed. Sure enough, on the way to Turtle Bay i got nervous. I texted Jesse to call me, and he did. But i could barely understand what he was saying. He whispered that he is in the bathroom and Nicole was next door in reading a magazine. I asked, what color dress she'll be wearing and the answer was " oh, i don't know ". My fear was to approach the wrong couple as he asked me to make up a story which goes like this: Hey guys, i am promoting my business and would like to take your picture. You'll be getting a free image of your choice by checking it later online... So what if i walk off with a different couple... Well, he did signal me somehow that it's HIM & HER walking down the stairs from the lobby. So i approached them and made up the story he told me earlier. Nicole's answer was: " No, i don't think we are interested, we are already late for our dinner reservation!" I tried again, and Jesse could finally convince her. She wasn't very excited though and i felt a little uncomfortable... We went to a spot with a bench and I took a couple of shots of her and then signaled Jesse that it is his turn now. He went on his knees and popped out a beautiful diamond ring. Nicole was so overwhelmed and surprised and sad "yes" in tears. She had no clue about his plan, and I must say it was a great experience for me. Thank you guys for sharing this special moment with me!! Hope to be there for your BIG day...

It took Nora quite some scouting to find the right spot for her engagement session. But when she did, it felt like there wouldn't have been a better place. We had beautiful light and some very big waves coming in. Nora & Jacob are getting married in June, and i am already looking forward to there wedding... You guys are such a lovely couple!

One of my favorite times to shoot is sunrise. Although i am not particularly a morning person, i have no problem getting up for these special occasions. Shauna & Chris is one of those lucky couples to live right next to the beach. I even could call in around 5am to check on the weather
Not only where the colors of the sky beautiful, but we even had a rainbow show up towards the end of the session.
It was a great shoot and we connected right away. I am looking forward to photograph your wedding in the fall.
